The Writers Guild of South Africa is proud to celebrate WGSA member Shika Budhoo, whose acclaimed one-woman theatre production Roti Queen will be featured at the Durban International Book Fair 2026.

Taking place on Monday, 10 August 2026 at the Sapphire Room, Umhlanga Apart-Hotel, Roti Queen is a vibrant theatrical experience that combines humour, heartfelt storytelling, Bollywood dance and live roti-making. The production has captivated audiences through its authentic and culturally resonant exploration of family, identity and heritage.
Following the performance, Budhoo will present a free book discussion titled The Published Play Journey of Roti Queen, offering audiences insight into the process of transforming a successful stage production into a published South African play.
The inclusion of Roti Queen in the Durban International Book Fair programme highlights the important relationship between writing, publishing and performance, while showcasing the diverse voices that continue to enrich South Africa’s storytelling landscape. It is also a testament to the enduring power of theatre as a medium for sharing compelling stories that reflect the country’s rich cultural tapestry.
