Members of the Writers Guild of South Africa recently attended The Writer’s Journey, a workshop hosted by Netflix during the Joburg Film Festival.
The session was led by Christopher Mack, who brings more than 30 years of experience in the entertainment industry across Hollywood and international markets. Drawing from his own writing experience on acclaimed one-hour dramas such as ER, The Practice, and The New Twilight Zone, Mack shared practical insights into the universal creative challenges writers face and offered tools to help writers develop the strongest version of their stories.
Beyond the workshop itself, the session also created an opportunity for WGSA members to connect in person – with some writers reconnecting after time apart and others meeting for the first time.
Opportunities like these reinforce the importance of spaces where writers can gather, exchange ideas, and continue strengthening the craft of storytelling.
