WRITING AND DIRECTING FOR ANIMATION WITH ROGER HAWKINS

Roger Hawkins is a writer and director based in Cape Town. He entered the Film and Television industry in 1993, writing and producing a television series for teenagers Adventure Unlimited (1995) which was broadcast in 13 African countries. This was followed by a television feature Choose Freedom (1998). 

He moved to London where he studied screenwriting and directing at the Raindance Film School. Returning to Africa he directed the stop motion feature film The Legend of the Sky Kingdom (2004) – the film was chosen for the official selection of the International Animation Festival in Annecy, France, and won the audience award at the Lucas Film Festival in Frankfurt.

Hawkins then directed the Feature Film The Silent Fall (2007) which won best film and best director awards at the Lagos International Film Festival 2008. Hawkins then co- directed the 3D Animated Feature Film the Lion of Judah (2009) which was produced by Sunrise Studios and Character Matters in Cape Town. Following this, Hawkins wrote and directed the 2D animated TV series Jabu’s Jungle, (2015 – 2019)which has been broadcast in 30 countries around the world and was in production for 4 Seasons (52 x 22minute episodes). His latest production is a 2D animation, Zizi and Hannibal, currently screening on SABC.
