WGSA Indigenous Language Screenwriting Programme
The call for attendance for the first round of sessions has now closed. We did not receive enough applications for Gqeberha, Cape Town, and Bloemfontein. These three cities will again be included in the second round.
The Writers Guild of South Africa (WGSA) is calling for applications to attend the WGSA Indigenous Language Screenwriting Program. The program is sponsored by the Presidential Employment Stimulus via the National Arts Council (NAC), an agency of the Department of Sports, Arts, and Culture (DSAC).
A further three workshops will be scheduled across South Africa in various South African languages from 10 to 12 March 2023!
We have included an additional 6 cities. The 3 cities with the highest number of participants will be selected.
The programme will cover the following:
· Screenwriting is a Job.
· Script.
· Story.
· Structure.

TO ENCOURAGE NEW WRITERS TO MAKE USE OF THIS OPPORTUNITY, WE HAVE DISCOUNTED OUR MEMBERSHIP FEES BY 30%. CANDIDATE MEMBERS WILL ONLY PAY R350 INSTEAD OF R500 PER ANNUM, STUDENT MEMBERS WILL ONLY PAY R154 INSTEAD OF R220 PER ANNUM. PAYMENT PLANS ARE AVAILABLE.
The programme is best suited to emerging writers who have wanted to but have never developed an idea far enough to become a short screenplay.
- We have limited space per class. It is important to apply as soon as possible.
- The classes will only be conducted in a specific city if we have a minimum of 10 applications.
- With limited space, we expect that the selected participants attend all the classes. The classes will be from 9h00 to 16h00 on all three days.
- A light lunch for the three full days and tea, coffee, and water will be provided. Participants can bring snacks, should they wish to do so.
- All workshops will be conducted in English and one of the vernacular languages and participants will have the option of writing their short film in any of the South African Languages
