Back to Basics! A session for Beginners.

Join us on 21 February 2024 for the Writers Guild’s 2nd session in the Back-to-Basics series, featuring Mpaki Molapo, as we explore the intriguing world of 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗿𝗲.

Mpaki is a film writer/director who operates between Lesotho, South Africa, and Berlin, Germany. They hold an M.A. degree in Theory in Film, Theory and Practice from the University of Cape Town. With a portfolio that includes various short films and documentaries, Mpaki has also scripted over 90 episodes for popular TV shows such as ‘Stokvel’ (SABC 2), ‘Majakthata Records’ (SABC 2), and ‘Shooting Stars’ (E-TV). Furthermore, Mpaki has lectured on Film Theory and Screenwriting at various universities in Lesotho, South Africa, and Germany. Currently, Mpaki is involved in the development of a Lesotho gangster short film.

In an upcoming session with the Writers Guild of South Africa, Mpaki will explore the intricacies of storytelling, focusing on identifying story genre, delving into genre dynamics, and unraveling the essence of what makes a truly compelling narrative. With Mpaki at the helm, participants are poised for an enlightening journey into the heart of storytelling.
