Submission Process
Before You Submit
There are a few things you need to know:
- Your script must have a unique title. If the title has been used already, the system will inform you of such. Please contact the WGSA Administrator.
- Before submitting, your work must be registered with our WGSA Script Registry or any other legitimate Script Registry. You will not be able to list your script without a script registration number.
- Make sure that you categorise your project correctly.
- The submission form requires a logline and short synopsis. Please prepare this before the time. To ensure that your work has a professional ring to it, spell check, grammar check and check punctuation before you submit it into the public domain. To develop a professional logline, you may use this guideline:
Ultimate Logline Guide:
“A hero with a flaw that keeps him/her from achieving a worthwhile goal, who is forced to respond to a life changing event instigated by an opponent, and in the process of responding to that life changing event with the help of an ally, the hero is forced to overcome his/her flaw and only then is s/he able to do one-on-one with the opponent to realize his/her goal.”

Logline | At the end of South Africa’s Apartheid regime, a psychology student grows increasingly curious about the abnormal social behaviour of her brother, and probes his source of inexplicable cash, resulting in herself and her family fighting for survival. |
Elevator Pitch | Lifting economic sanctions after dismantling South Africa’s Apartheid regime demanded certain prerequisites, like ending the ‘Tot System’ on farms (a form of enslavement through alcohol dependency). This created opposition from farm workers. Anna Mouton, a psychology student and unmarried mother (Coloured), lives in this social milieu with her family and toddler, Marietjie. During a research project on Freud’s abnormal psychology theory, she grows aware of abnormal social behavior patterns of those on the farm, particularly her brother, Dawid, who always has an inexplicable availability of cash. As she’s dependent on a study grant from the new farm owner, Suzanne, Anna aligns her loyalties with her, thereby alienating herself from farm workers. When Dawid takes Marietjie with him to drug dealer ‘friends’, but doesn’t return by nightfall, Anna calls the police. They find Marietjie, but the dealers severely beat up Dawid for attracting the police. Anna and her boyfriend, Johnny, take Dawid to hospital where a doctor diagnoses a brain disease called Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, newly-identified in South Africa. Concerned, Anna follows Dawid and finds him selling drugs at a school, but her presence is spotted. Dawid, unaware when he does wrong, is easily manipulated and mostly functions at a primal level with minimal self-control. Innocently, he hands Anna a threatening note from the dealers. That night, the Mouton family home is petrol-bombed leading Suzanne to coerce Anna into using Dawid for a sting operation to entrap the dealers. During the sting, confused and terrified, Dawid runs away into the traffic and is killed. On returning home to inform her parents of the tragedy, she learns that their home was petrol-bombed by farm workers, not the dealers, because of her association with Suzanne. In her research findings on Freud’s theory, Anna reports that Dawid’s brain, being damaged by alcohol in infancy, made him unable to assimilate social norms and impaired his learning, making his primal instincts dominant with the behavior and understanding of a young child. |
