Sunni Faba – Membership
Sunni Faba is a SAFTA nominated writer and director. She is a passionate storyteller with an impressive body of work as a writer and director. Sunni has been at the helm of highly rated and popular TV shows and Headwriter for super-natural drama The Herd II (Mzansi Magic); high-energy mystery The Imposter II (Mzansi Magic) and medical drama Vutha (SABC). Her latest scriptwriting work, the romantic comedy How To Ruin Christmas: The Wedding debuted on Netflix in 2020.
She has been a story developer, scriptwriter and storyliner for hit shows such as the cult-classic youth drama Ayeye (Vuzu) and breakthrough telenovela Isibaya (Mzansi Magic) among others. She was Creative Producer and Story Editor for eTV’s hit telenovela Broken Vows (eTV). Sunni was also the lead scriptwriter for the 22nd South African Music Awards (SAMA’s) showing her diverse range in strorytelling.
She was one of Mail and Gaurdians Top 200 Young South Africans (2015) and holds a Dramatic Arts Honours Degree from the Wits School of Arts, specialising in Writing and Directing.
Her debut short film, Ebumnyameni screened on SABC1 to very high ratings as part of the NFVF’s Female Filmmakers Slate. She has a unique ability to be able to tell a story that is visually and technically stimulating, without compromising on performance and narrative.
Sunni has directed over a dozen short drama films for Mzansi Magic’s Lokshin Bioskop format grossing high ratings for the films like Mogudu Wars, Houseband and S’khwama. She has also successfully directed for the popular e-TV eKasi format films while fine-tuning her craft as a filmmaker.
