Dean Ravell is a screenwriter from Cape Town, South Africa, with a diverse background in marketing and 11 years of experience in the events industry. Having discovered a passion for writing and a love for film, he combined the two and became enamored with the art of screenwriting. Dean holds a Bachelor of Arts in Film and Media Production, specializing in Screenwriting, and has completed the Sunshine Cinema Film Impact Course.
Dean has written numerous short scripts, including “Detour,” which appeared as a segment in “Breathe Easy” (2016) – a global film narrative featuring multiple directors and locations. He also penned the post-apocalyptic short film “Day Zero,” which addresses the water crisis in Cape Town. Dean co-wrote pilots for three sitcoms, two of which have been optioned, and has participated in a writers’ room for a sitcom currently in development. Most recently, Dean has co-written and co-directed the short films “MIA&I” (2021), “Protégé” (2022), and “Plunder” (2023).
Currently, Dean is developing a short film script called “Pieces,” for which he received funding from the NFVF, and is also working on a feature-length script with a well-known South African distributor
