Meet the Writer

Celebrated screenplay-writer, show-runner, head-writer, producer of both feature films, documentaries and acclaimed television series, Carol has been a full-time working scriptwriter and producer in the South African television industry since 1978. She has variously written and produced her own films or television scripts both here and in Canada, under commission directly from broadcasters, or via producers, or overseen by other writers, who were writing theirs. Between the years 1985 and 2019, she has acted as show-runner, script editor, script supervisor, head-writer and producer. She commenced the writing of the first two seasons of the well-known ‘Generations’ long-running soapie in 1992 with renowned Producer Mr Mfundi Vundla, was a staff writer on eTV’s ‘Backstage’, and was Head Writer and Creative Head of Scripts for the popular local vernacular television soap “Muvhango” for 18 years, over 19 seasons, with a staff writing team of fourteen.

In 2008 she published her book “Writing for South African Television” published by Crink Publishers which launched at the Cape Town Book Fair in 2009, and which is still in industry use today, as well as available in most national libraries.

Carol has served on the Council of the Writers Guild of South Africa as head of the Professional Development Portfolio in 2023 and continues to serve on the WGSA Professional Development Portfolio Committee.
