Meet you Mentor: Tanya Mudaly

Tanya Mudaly began her career in 1997 at the South African Broadcast Corporation as a writer and director in the Dramatic Encounters initiative, aimed at training film makers of colour to tell real South African stories in a new dispensation. Tanya then wrote on most daily series in the country before working her way to production level. She then joined the SABC as a Commissioning Editor for Drama and led flagship high end series for the broadcaster. She took the helm of productions like Sokhulu and Partners, Isidingo, Society and Tshisa, all of which formed part of the daily and weekly SABC Drama slate. All productions under her care garnered high revenues and audience ratings leading to recommissions on all projects. Tanya specialised in script as a scripted producer, analyst and editor with government funding bodies for the television and film sector. As a Head Writer and Key Creative Producer with three series in development, she has travelled extensively through Africa, Latin America and Asia studying indigenous storytelling while crafting content based on indigenous knowledge and systems.  Tanya specialises in creating high end local content with specific focus on characters and storylining series. Tanya is a Snr Academic lecturer who works extensively with the Kwazulu Film Commission, NFVF and East Cape Film Cortex Hub, training and mentoring film makers.
